What every F1 fan should know about Singapore

There is an air of unmistakable excitement in Singapore as the country heads into the opening night of the 2008 Formula1 Grand Prix on September 28. It will be the first F1 race to run at nighttime and on a street circuit, so expect many surprises from the Singapore GP than you will normally expect from previous F1 Grand Prix. This is going to be a part of motor racing history.

Come get-go time on September 28 Singapore will be overflowing with both F1 fans and tourists alike.

SINGAPORE Grand Prix will be releasing single-day walkabout tickets for the upcoming F1 race in Singapore! With affordable prices enough to convince the average Singaporean to attend the Formula 1 race, the walkabout area during the event is going to be one big party!
Walkabout Ticket Prices

Friday, Sept 26 $ 38

Saturday, Sept 27 $ 58

Sunday, Sept 28 $108

* Tickets are subject to availability.

The walkabout tickets may be the least prestigious of the lot, but there will be numerous food, beverage and entertainment outlets that can be found all over the circuit park, and ticket holders will be able to enjoy selected outlets at the Esplanade and the Singapore Flyer.

General walkabout ticket holders can walk around the entire circuit park except the Northern Loop (which includes the Paddock, Pit Building, Pit Grandstands and Turns 1, 2 and 3), and restricted areas (safety and technical zones).

For a full view of the walkabout areas, click here.

These single-day walkabout tickets will be available on all ticket channels from April 26 onwards.

Tickets can be purchased in the following ways:

    * Via the official website www.singaporegp.sg
    * Via the dedicated ticket sales hotline on +65 6738 6738.

The inaugural 2008 FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix will take place on 28 September 2008 on a street circuit of public roads around the Marina Bay area. The race is Formula One™’s first to be held at night, and is their first street race in Asia.

The inaugural Singapore Grand Prix  was on 28th September the first F1 ever held at night, to satisfy the European audience. Melbourne has turned down the request for late night race, which prompted a stronger move to held F1 in Asian cities.

on www.f1gpsg.com you can check out a interactive map on the circuit.

Glancing across Singapore harbour  From this vantage point, Singapore's tallest buildings are clearly visible and so is the "durian" shaped Esplanade building.

Singapore 1st Formula one

The inaugural Singapore Grand Prix was held on 28th September 2008. For the first time in F1 history the event was held at night, to satisfy the European audience. Melbourne has turned down the request for late night race, which prompted a stronger move to held F1 in Asian cities.

Spain's Fernando Alonso snapped a year-long win drought to take the Singapore Grand Prix Sunday, winning a drama-filled first ever night race as a comical error cost Felipe Massa dearly.
It was the Renault driver's first victory since the Italian Grand Prix last year and capped a remarkable weekend that saw him top two of the free practice sessions but start 15th on the grid after a mechanical problem in qualifying

Singapore Grand Prix Results:
1 Fernando Alonso (Spa) Renault one hour 5 minutes
2 Nico Rosberg (Ger) Williams-Toyota 2.9 seconds behind
3 Lewis Hamilton (GB) McLaren-Mercedes +5.9secs

8. Kazuki Nakajima (Jpn) Williams-Toyota +18.489
9. Jenson Button (GB) Honda +19.885
10. Heikki Kovalainen (Fin) McLaren-Mercedes +26.902
11. Robert Kubica (Pol) BMW Sauber +27.975
12. Sebastien Bourdais (Fra) Toro Rosso-Ferrari +29.432
13. Felipe Massa (Brz) Ferrari +35.107

After the race, these ushers cheered everyone who walked past. They showed appreciation to the F1 fans who enjoyed the last three days of events despite the heat and humidity.
